چکیده

A fundamental quantity which arises in the sorting of n numbers app**.9an is Pr(ai < aj \ P) , the probability that ai < a. assuming J that all linear extensions of the partial order P are equally likely. In this paper we establish various properties of Pr(ai < aj 1 P) and related quantities. In particular, it is shown that Pr(ai < bj 1 P') 2 Pr(ai < bj 1 P) , if the partial order P consists of two disjoint linearly ordered sets A= {al< a2 < . . . < am] , B = {bl < b2 < . . . < b ] and n P' = PU {any relations of the form ak < ba) . These inequalities have applications in determining the complexity of certain sorting-like computations.

Operations on Graphs Increasing Some Graph Parameters

In this partly expository paper we discuss and describe some of our old and recent results on partial orders on the set G n of graphs with n vertices and m edges and some operations on graphs within G n that are monotone with respect to these partial orders. The partial orders under consideration include those related with some Laplacian characteristics of graphs as well as with some probabilis...

SOME PROPERTIES OF UNCERTAIN INTEGRAL

Uncertainty theory is a mathematical methodology for dealing withnon-determinate phenomena in nature. As we all know, uncertainprocess and uncertain integral are important contents of uncertaintytheory, so it is necessary to have deep research. This paperpresents the definition and discusses some properties of strongcomonotonic uncertain process. Besides, some useful formulas ofuncertain integr...

Property testing for distributions on partially ordered sets

We survey the results of Rubinfeld, Batu et al. ([2], [3]) on testing distributions for monotonicity, and testing distributions known to be monotone for uniformity. We extend some of their results to new partial orders, and provide evidence for some new conjectural lower bounds. Our results apply to various partial orders: bipartite graphs, lines, trees, grids, and hypercubes. Thesis Supervisor...

Partial second-order subdifferentials of -prox-regular functions

Although prox-regular functions in general are nonconvex, they possess properties that one would expect to find in convex or lowerC2  functions. The class of prox-regular functions covers all convex functions, lower C2  functions and strongly amenable functions. At first, these functions have been identified in finite dimension using proximal subdifferential. Then, the definition of prox-regula...

Property testing: theory and applications

Property testers are algorithms that distinguish inputs with a given property from those that are far from satisfying the property. Far means that many characters of the input must be changed before the property arises in it. Property testing was introduced by Rubinfeld and Sudan in the context of linearity testing and first studied in a variety of other contexts by Goldreich, Goldwasser and Ro...
